Working With Small Family Tea Farms

We work directly with four small, family-run tea farms across Japan - in Uji, Kirishima, and Nagasaki - chosen not for scale, but for care. These are farms we know personally and collaborate with closely, built on long-term relationships rather than transactions. Every farm we work with shares a deep respect for the land, a commitment to pesticide-free growing practices, and an uncompromising approach to quality. For us, working small allows for transparency, traceability, and a level of intention that simply isn’t possible at an industrial scale.

Sourcing With Intention

All of our matcha is shade-grown, harvested only during the first flush of spring, and stone-milled using traditional methods. It’s a slower, more labour-intensive process - but one that preserves the aroma, texture, vibrant colour, and depth of flavour that define exceptional matcha. We source both single-cultivar and bespoke cultivar blends developed exclusively for Zenergi Matcha in collaboration with our partner farms. While Uji remains the most renowned region for matcha production, we also work with outstanding producers in Kirishima and Nagasaki, where unique climates and terroir are producing some of Japan’s best tea.

Sustainability guides every decision we make - from how our tea is grown to how it reaches you. Our partner farms prioritise pesticide-free cultivation, soil health, and long-term land stewardship, producing clean, nutrient-rich tea that reflects their environment and values. We support small-scale, local enterprise wherever possible, including printing our labels locally near our farms in Japan. From farm to cup, our approach is about balance: honouring tradition, supporting communities, and ensuring that quality, care, and responsibility are never compromised.
